Allow us to introduce ourselves
With around 115 different study programmes in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, health sciences and engineering, graduates of the University of Southern Denmark are members of virtually every profession in the international community.
The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) welcomed the first students onto the campus in Odense in September 1966, and things have been developing by leaps and bounds ever since.
We now have five faculties with more than 27,000 students, almost 20% of whom are from abroad, and more than 3,800 employees distributed across our main campus in Odense and regional campuses in Slagelse, Kolding, Esbjerg and Sønderborg.
Several international studies document that we conduct world-class research and are one of the top fifty young universities in the world.
Over the years, SDU has interwoven many lives. The roughly five years which a student invests in a university education will lay the groundwork for the rest of his or her life.
SDU also works purposefully to create a dialogue between the university's researchers and the surrounding society. The answers to societal challenges are often found in the interaction between highly specialized academic environments. When these environments collaborate, perspectives are expanded, and new insights emerge.

The University of Southern Denmark has more than 27000 students and 3800 employees. The campuses of the university are represented in several cities.
Odense
The campus in Odense is the university’s main and largest campus and at the same time the largest educational institution of the Region of Southern Denmark. Nearly all the university’s programmes are represented here, and the buildings accommodate about 23,000 students. Fun fact: The campus is larger than the Principality of Monaco.
Esbjerg
Our campus where truly unique nature experiences are combined with a vibrant and active city and student life. The Esbjerg campus is brand new and opened on 17 November 2020 in partnership with UC SYD.
Kolding
The campus in Kolding is characterised by education and research with design and entrepreneurship as pivotal points. The campus is an architectural beauty in Kolding. The common areas constitute an invitation for even more collaboration - across the disciplines, between researchers and the students, and between the university and the outside world.
Slagelse
SDU Slagelse has an environment that will enable you to develop good relations with your fellow students, the researchers and the regional companies. A wide range of study activities are cross-curricular and take place in cooperation with the local business community. The campus has a unique location near the station, close to the city centre and in the middle of the new campus area.
Sønderborg
The campus offers a unique international environment. The university works closely together with the regional companies, which means that graduates possess the skills that the business community demands. With the unique location of the Sønderborg centrum and harbour area at the gateway to Germany and Europe, the university is also characterized by an extremely strong and well-developed border region research community.

The research is rooted in interactions between basic research and applied research in a network that consists of part of other research units at SDU and part of outside research institutions – nationally as well as internationally.
Faculty of Health Sciences
The Faculty of Health Sciences enjoys a close cooperation with Odense University Hospital, industry and experts across the world. The expertise in public health offers students and researchers a first-class learning environment and the opportunity to play a key role in the treatment and prevention of disease. We have a strong image when it comes to health science research, education and communication.
Faculty of Humanities
Humanities offer students and researchers an expansive and dynamic learning environment where new academic areas complement traditional studies. Humanities cover a wide range of programmes and research fields which all have a basis in human beings and their relationship with the outside world in common. Focus and concern are on human thoughts, creative arts and communication from different perspectives and in many historical and geographic settings.
Faculty of Science
Learning is hands-on at the Faculty of Science, where modern laboratories and an emphasis on fieldwork allow you to put theory into practice.
