Das Studium im Portrait

Introduction to BEng in Mechanical Engineering

With a strong emphasis on applying acquired theory in practice, both by teamwork in bigger projects as well as smaller practical tasks, the education prepares you for a career as a development engineer or project manager in an R&D department. In the bigger projects, you will learn how to collaborate – also across different engineering disciplines – on solving development tasks provided by the industry. Here, you will also apply prototyping skills using our state-of-the-art prototyping facilities.

As part of the education, you will spend a whole semester in a company internship working on development tasks as part of the company’s engineering team. Similarly, you have the option of carrying out your final project within a company.

During your studies, you learn to plan and carry out projects and you gain an understanding of the design of industrial products.

In the first part of your studies, you learn about product development. Among other things, you learn to analyse user wishes and needs, develop user-friendly designs, select the optimal production methods, calculate strengths, durability, costs, etc., make models, and test prototypes.
In the second part of your studies you learn about, for example, finances and corporate management, design of mechanical and thermal systems, automation of processes, and advanced calculations of strengths.

Each semester is based on a theme. Read more about the structure of the programme.
