Introduction to MSc in Applied Mathematics
Do you want to be a problem solver? Would you like to learn to utilise advanced mathematical tools and computers to model, analyse and solve complex problems in business or research? Then study Applied mathematics!
Applied mathematics is a broad subject arena, combining mathematics, statistics and computer science. However, there is room for elective subjects, allowing you to specialise in a sub-field of your choice.
Applied mathematics is not a particular kind of mathematics, but a way to work with mathematics. It is impossible to say whether a mathematical subject is applied or not. Most of the mathematics considered “pure” mathematics was developed to solve practical problems.
In short, you could say that an applied mathematician is often motivated by a problem outside the realm of mathematics. An applied mathematician masters and is capable of developing the mathematical tools which have helped create the modern society of industry and information.

Students in Denmark spend much time together, as social togetherness and a sense of community are important elements of Danish culture. International students find themselves quickly integrated and appreciate the easiness to make new connections and get along with fellow students.
Our students here spend time after classes together: working together, forming study groups and solving assignments together. There is a high motivation to help each other. The classes have been described as having a respectful atmosphere in which students feel comfortable to speak up and contribute.
International students play a crucial role in enriching the university experience for every student, by bringing different views, cultures and perspectives. That is why we do our utmost to support our international students before and after their arrival.
Career opportunities
The Master's degree programme in Applied mathematics prepares you for a career in a variety of different industries. As an applied mathematician, you can get a job in any company that does research and development, both in private business and in public research institutions, for example:
Some specialise in statistics and are in great demand by research institutes, hospitals and the pharmaceutical industry. Numerical mathematical modelling is also used for developing and optimising cars, CT scanners, weather forecast, ships, wind turbines, oil platform and robots.
