Career opportunities
Most industrial physicists work in IT, telecommunications and related industries. A Physics degree can lead to careers in finance, the energy industry, and various consultancies.
Government agencies hire physicists to conduct research, work in regulatory affairs and public policy. Physicists are often employed within areas such as radiology, radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, to design, test and approve new medical technologies and equipment.
Typically, a career in academic research will require a PhD degree. Some physicists opt to start their own company.

Introduction to MSc in Physics
We offer a versatile 2-year Master's degree programme in Physics with the possibility of specialising in Computational Physics, Particle Physics and Cosmology, Quantum Optics, or Soft Matter and Statistical Physics.
The first semester of the master's programme goes in-depth with quantum physics and statistical physics, at the same time as these subjects are used in astrophysics and experimental physics. In the following semesters, you will have the opportunity to go into the area of physics that you are most interested in. It could be, for example, laser physics, statistical physics, biophysics or high-energy physics.
In the second semester of the study, you have the opportunity to study for half a year at a foreign university or do a project in collaboration with a Danish or foreign business company.
During the thesis, which you write in the second year of the master's program, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new knowledge. As a starting point, one or more of the department's researchers will guide you during the thesis. But you also have the opportunity to do the thesis in collaboration with researchers from outside.

Students in Denmark spend much time together, as social togetherness and a sense of community are important elements of Danish culture. International students find themselves quickly integrated and appreciate the easiness to make new connections and get along with fellow students.
Our students here spend time after classes together: working together, forming study groups and solving assignments together. There is a high motivation to help each other. The classes have been described as having a respectful atmosphere in which students feel comfortable speaking up and contribute.
At SDU, 1 in 5 of our students come from outside Denmark. Accordingly, international students play a crucial role in enriching the university experience for every student, by bringing different views, cultures and perspectives. That is why we do our utmost to support our international students before and after their arrival.
