Digital technology immerses us completely everyday both as individuals and in society in general. The master in computer science gives you a skills within computer technology and software development. You will learn how to design, develop, and build computer systems that society needs.
The master gives you broad knowledge and specialist skills within computers technology and software development that are desired by industry. You will learn how software development can be used across a range of businesses to create a better product and as a tool to contribute to solve our society’s challenges.
You will get advanced knowledge in Informatics and software engineering, and will know how to design and develop tomorrow’s digital solution to aid in the cooperation between man and technology.
The MSc will give you the skills and knowledge to work independently both as a researcher and problem solver, and to contribute in a team with researchers and industry in future research and development challenges.
An MSc in computer science will give you the opportunity to apply for PhD programmes both at USN, elsewhere in Norway, and abroad.

USN offer an informal and student friendly environment. Our campuses are small with an open-door policy where our staff dedicates time and attention to each student. USN offers a safe living and study environment as well as a multicultural society where English is widely spoken. Our programmes are focused on practical study methods with a problem-based approach that should help students to prepare for real-life situations.
The programme is taught at campus Kongsberg, Norway's oldest industrial city, where young people from all over the country gather to embark on studies surrounded by wild nature and high-tech companies. Read more about campus Kongsberg.
From large multinational corporations to self-created startup businesses, there is no shortage of work opportunities in computer science. Perhaps more important, many of these roles can be carried out from wherever the service provider is located, instead of requiring a daily presence in the company premises. Many computer science graduates who work on software development benefit from this freedom and work remotely, either from their homes or enjoying the mobility provided by co-work spaces all over the world.
